1. How does sound create meaning? (in the extract)
- Diegetic sound in the cafe, making the atmosphere sound normal. - Faced paced music during the robbery connotes danger, excitement. I needed to talk about the connotations. 3/5 2. How far does the extract depict the police's point of view (10 marks) - Close up on police juxtaposed to long shot of criminals, gives us more detail of police. - Costume of criminals was stereotypical, hides their identities meaning we cant connect to them. - Sinister music for criminals, adds to effect we shouldn't like them. I needed to give more of a judgement supporting my examples and terminology. But I gave good examples. 8/10 3. How far does the extract try to create a sense that it's portraying real life? (15 marks) - Shot outside on location, natural lighting. - Diegetic conversation between policewomen, ordinary. - Non diegetic music creates drama for the audience, but isn't real. - Multicultural and gay and female characters show England in a good light but also could be to fit PSB of diversity rather than realism. - Not as violent as real life, swearing, the BBC can't include. I needed to say things which make it less real, also to talk about representations of different people, and it's the BBC which include different representations. Give more detailed analysis. 9/15. 4. What is PSB (5 marks) - Television or radio channel on terrestrial TV - Ofcom regulator for TV and radio - Distinctive high quality programmes. - Reflect diversity of Britain. - Making original programs (British) rather than cheaper American programs. - BBC, owned and paid for by the public.
